Great round from Matt, whose score could have been matched by a few of the chasing pack but for some ‘unfortunate’ finishing!
Sunday 17 June
ROYAL BANK SHIELD
Tight at the top with John winning to make it a family double, following Ann’s successful defence of the Ladies Championship yesterday.
Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 June
ARRAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Arran Open draw will be published here on Thursday 31st May (instead of Wed 30th May)
Entry form available on website
Eleventh Heaven for Ewan
With this win Ewan McKinnon gets within one Championship title of Stevie Bunyan’s twelve.
After a fairly average front nine, which ended all square, the standard of golf improved dramatically as the players headed into the back nine. Matt Keir’s figures from the 10th were
4 4 4 3 3 3 3 4 3, yet he lost by 2 holes as a result of Ewan’s birdies at the 11th, 12th and at the 18th, where he hit a 4 iron to 3 feet!
These scores are even more remarkable as there was a very strong North Easterly blowing, which made the approach shots and putting especially tricky.
All the players commented afterwards on the great improvements to the condition of the course.
This was Matt’s third defeat in the final, and as Captain Douglas said in his remarks, he would probably have had a win or two if he wasn’t playing in the same era as Ewan!
Many congratulations to both players for entertaining a good number of spectators and particularly to Ewan, as he gets ever closer to a record number of Championship successes.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
Ann May beat Fiona Henderson 5&4
Ewan McKinnon beat Matt Keir 2 up
Fiona not in picture as she had to leave for a choir performance.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINALS
Two nail biting matches that were a joy to watch. Ewan was 5 up after 11 and 4 up with 4 to play but, due to some gutsy play from Gordon, only finally prevailed at 18.
In a ding dong game, Matt was 2 up playing 16 and with Greg’s second deep in the rough in front of the the bunker, it looked like game over only for Greg to hole out for a half in 3.
Greg then hit a magnificent drive to the edge of 17 to win with a another birdie 3. Matt then holed a great putt from 8 feet for a 3 to tie Greg’s longer effort and a hard fought win.
Semi finals Club Championship
The results of tonight’s quarter finals see the 4 members of our Hope Cup team for the last few years winning through to tomorrow’s (5.30 & 5.40) semi finals.
Ewan was slightly delayed by a Mountain Rescue call out and when he arrived Jasper sportingly conceded the tie!
The second tie was undoubtedly the match of the day. Nog won the first three holes and looked set for a comfortable win, but Bob had other ideas and a great 3 from the grass bunker at the last meant extra holes. Bob just missed a putt for victory at 19 and a 3 at the 21st saw Nog scrape through.
The tie dubbed ‘The Ice Cream War’ saw past champion Greg beat work colleague Matt in a game that included a couple of visits to the jungle!
Matt Keir pitched in a couple of times to get the better of Bruce.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINALS
Some very evenly balanced ties to be played tonight in great golfing conditions. Should be well worth coming out to watch.
McCARFRAE TROPHY, CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
Best 2 rounds of a possible 3
Ross Duncan 67+72 139
Ewan McKinnon 68+72 140

Very close at the top with Ross just pipping Ewan to win this trophy for the first time in many years!
First matchplay round Monday 21st May
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING Round 3
Ross Duncan 72
Ewan McKinnon 73
Gordon Hendry & Matt Keir 74
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING Round 2
McCarfrae Trophy 1st Rnd
Although this is the first round of a scratch competition, only the nett scores for the sweep seem to be available.
Bob’s early Summer break in Majorca seems to have paid dividends!
Second round, Thursday 17th….third and final round, Sunday 20th.
Donald, who has been very consistent so far this year, improved on last Sunday’s second place with an excellent score. His better back nine just got the better of Gordon who won the scratch. A beautiful golfing day.
Well done to John, who plays in almost every competition, on his first win of the season. The May household will be celebrating tonight with Ann being part of yesterday’s winning Kiscadale team!
Sunday 29 April
8.30am & noon
David is continuing the excellent form which brought him recent success in the WINTER CUP. He had birdies at two of the holes which sometimes cause him grief, 5th & 8th!
Good to see FJ back after a spell away from playing in competitions…he doesn’t seem to have lost his touch!
Sunday 22 April
Enter in clubhouse before noon Saturday or turn up prior to draws @ 8.30am & noon.
Sunday 8 April
BRITISH LEGION 36 HOLES

Douglas Robertson 135
Gordon Hendry 136 acb

A good week for the Hume clan….Ali won the SUMMER CUP round, Nicol won the BRITISH LEGION 36 HOLES and Kirsty won the MASTERS Sweep!
Sunday 15 April
BRITISH LEGION CUP
Enter before Noon Saturday or turn up for draws @ 8.30am & Noon.
This SWEEP was for those not playing in 36 hole competition
Please note, that as this is a 36 hole competition, entry is only by this notice in the clubhouse. To play in the 18 hole sweep, just turn up at the allotted times.
Despite it being a beautiful day for golf, scoring for many of the players proved difficult.
Donald and Jim win the 1st and 2nd class qualifiers.
With David and Ali tied prior to the final round, it looked as though the winner could be decided on count back. Due to an AMRT training exercise Ali was unable to play, and with David scoring an excellent 39 points to improve his tally by 4 points, he wins the WINTER CUP…..many congratulations to him on a great Winter’s golf!
Ahead of yesterday’s final round, Gordon and Iain were tied on 57, and Gordon must have thought he was in with a chance of victory when he improved his score by one shot with an eagle at the 17th. However, Iain improved his score by two shots with birdies at the 10th and 11th to win by one shot!
By the looks of the forecast the weather for today’s final WINTER CUP round will be a lot better than Wednesday’s first round of the SUMMER CUP!
Some great scoring today with Sid and others coming into form in time for the start of this Summer’s golf.
Final standings for the WINTER CUP to follow.
Sunday 1 April
Poor turnout on a lovely day for golf…possibly because of having to compete with a combination of an Old Firm encounter, holidays and Mothers’ Day!
A slightly different result between the two scoring formats but David the clear winner of both!
Sunday 18 March
AGA DUNCAN TROPHY
2017/18 Winter League
Many congratulations to the Brodick team, which beat our friends from Lamlash in a winner takes all decider to take the title after a hard fought campaign!
On a dreich day, the morning boys got the slightly better weather, or, as an old worthy at the Ormidale put it ‘the weather improved worse!’
Well done to David who just pipped Donald and Ali on count back.
Sunday 25 February
9.00am & Noon
An interesting 4 holes for Stud in today’s Brandon round!
Please see below for result.
Sun 11th Feb 2018
WIMPS FOR WALKING IN!?
I don’t think so…..six of the Club’s hardiest players ventured out this morning, only for Jasper to succumb to frostbite on the 1st hole! The other five managed to play seven holes before conditions became Arctic. Keeno wants it known that he won the ‘Skins’!
Pictured below: Keeno, Nog’s daddy in the background, Bob, Nog and Loci.
I’m sure they’re now enjoying a well deserved libation or three in the warmth of the clubhouse!
Good win for Chris on his first medal outing since July.
Sunday 21 January
9.00am & Noon
Well done to these 4 stalwarts who played in terrible weather and to Bob for a great score in the conditions!
Thought I saw 5 playing?
Will post events for next Sunday and New Year later in the week.
First class Christmas lunch from Trish and her helpers….plus a guest appearance from Unistud!
SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER
BRANDON QUALIFIER & WINTER CUP
(postponed from Sunday 10 December)
As this will be followed by the CHRISTMAS LUNCH
at 2.00pm approx, there will be a SHOTGUN START at
9.45 for 10.00am
PLEASE ADVISE TRISH or DOUGIE IF YOU’RE HAVING LUNCH
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
Even allowing for the benign weather conditions, the scoring was spectacular today. All the players with 40 or more points must have thought they had done enough to win, but Ali was just too good!
Sunday 26 November
9.00am & Noon
Clear win by Donald on a very cold but sunny day.
Sunday 19 November
9.00am & Noon
Not many playing in the SWEEP due to our 8 man team taking part (very successfully!) in the first round of the AGA DUNCAN TROPHY v Machrie @ Lamlash.
Despite Bob getting a 2 at the 18th for 3 points, Terry’s excellent 3 birdies in a row at 15, 16 & 17 gained him enough points to win on count back over the last 6 holes.
Sunday 12 November
Well done to everyone who turned out on a cold day of some sunshine and lots of heavy showers.
Jimmy is well known for playing well in testing conditions and scoring an excellent 12 points in the last 4 holes separated him from Bill, Kenny and Iain, just a point behind.
Pretty good scoring on a windy day, especially from Terry!
Sunday 22 October WINTER CUP 8.30am & noon
Great score by Ewan….his 61 was the best scratch by no less than 13 shots!
Well done to the 6 hardy players who ventured out on a very miserable day!
Good haul of trophies for Bobby this year!
JOHN GEMMELL SHEILD
Some good scoring with 3 clubs, with in form Terry just coming out on top. Have included the photo as John Gemmell (whose wife Janice presented the shield) is second from the right, with Willie Innes beside him. A lot of real characters in this one, many of them being stalwarts of the Club for years and years!
Thanks to Nicol Hume for this one and well done to our hard working Match Secretary on his win. One question….why was presentation done in the ‘dirty’ bar!? The main area of the club was full of “cheery golf parties ” very cosy in the old. Dirty Bar though!
The happy faces of the winners tells you all you need to know about the success of the annual dinner and presentation of prizes. Great meal, as always, from Trish and her helpers!
On a pleasant day for golf Dougie and Jimmy showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field. Congratulations to Dougie on winning the concluding event of this year long competition!
Sunday 20 August
At last, a decent day for golf!
Some good scoring with 3 players on 37 points (Billy Armit, David Hendry & Bert McGunnigle), but the winner was in form Jim Reid with 38 points.
Captain Lindsay presented Jim with a voucher for the DOUGLAS HOTEL, a place he knows quite well, and a voucher for the PRO’S SHOP, another place he knows quite well!
John wins his first individual trophy of the season on a perfect day for golf. He must finally be listening to his wife’s golfing advice!
Sunday 20 August
Draw noon Saturday
One draw only with first tee off time at 10.00am
SENIOR OPEN 2017
Lovely golfing day and and a great turnout following last year’s weather related cancellation. Local knowledge proved to be a major factor with BGC members occupying the top 5 places. In form Bob McCrae notched up yet another win and is now on course to have his best ever haul of trophies in a single season. Retirement and the ensuing extra practice time is clearly paying dividends! Many congratulations to Jim on his second place and to captain Lindsay on posting an excellent score after some trying times both on and off the course. Many thanks to all who took part, especially those from other clubs both on and off the island. Brodick Golf Club looks forward to welcoming you back to the SENIOR OPEN of 2018!
Please note that age categories were 55 to 64 and 65 (S) and over.
Well done to all the players who turned out on a very wet day. Good to see Bill winning again and Bob’s good form continues despite once again having a poor start!
Thursday 10 August
GENTS SENIOR OPEN
A great score from Bob on a very wet day which saw the CSS rise to 66. This win, added to his previous victory in the ROYAL BANK SHIELD, opens up the possibility of a great season for Bob as he is still standing in the latter stages of both the MCLELLAND MEDAL and the SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
The 2017 Gents Senior Open will be held on Thursday 10th August.
Great to see John atop the leaderboard. Jim’s visit to the Scottish Open yesterday paid dividends….he obviously followed the players all day and ignored the hospitality pavilions!
Sunday 23 July
Draw noon Saturday
Poor turnout for this long standing competition which was played in fairly wet conditions. Iain and Nicol were the only two players to beat the course, with Iain taking the trophy on countback.
The CSS to Bogey was 1 up.
Sunday 16 July: GRAHAM PUTTER. Draw noon Saturday.
Good score from Bill on a blustery day.
A lot of good scores, but John and Bob the clear winners.
This is the last time Bob can win this trophy as an employee of RBS!
Sweep 8.30 & noon
Brandon Qualifier 11th June 2017
A blustery day with showers had little effect on Bruce and Kenny, who took first and second places respectively for the second time in 5 days. Bruce’s excellent scores see his handicap reduced by 1.6.
Brandon Qualifiers: 1st class, Bruce. 2nd class, Kenny.
Sunday 18 June
ROYAL BANK SHIELD
Sweep Sunday 28 May 2017
As usual, a low turnout on the day after the Championship final. Good to see Ian topping the leaderboard and getting a well deserved handicap reduction.
ARRAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Club Championship Final 2017
Ewan McKinnon vs Matthew Keir
In a repeat of the 2014 final, Ewan just got the better of Matt in a match of high quality. Ewan drove out of bounds at the 6th, hit 3 off the tee to 8 feet and holed out for a par 4, but Matt’s excellent birdie won the hole. Ewan’s birdies at 2 of the most difficult holes, 8 & 10, increased his lead, which, despite Matt’s excellent play, proved decisive.
This was Ewan’s 10th CHAMPIONSHIP success and puts Stevie Bunyan’s record 12 wins firmly in his sights.
Brodick Golf Club Championship 2017
Semi-Final results mean a repeat of the 2014 final between Ewan and Matt K. Ewan had a fairly comfortable win over Gordon, but the two Matts had a great match which was played in a very sporting manner and finished on the 18th.
Final scheduled for Saturday 27th 4.00pm but there is a potential weather problem which might result in a time change.
Club Championship Draw 2017
Some very interesting ties in this seeded draw. Due to a few qualifiers being unable to participate in the matchplay rounds, Captain Lindsay gets the last place, giving him the questionable privilege of playing champion Ewan in round 1!
Congratulations to Matt on winning the prestigious McCafrae Trophy 2017
Round 3 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
Sunday 21 May
With the HOPE CUP only 4 weeks away, great to see last year’s winning team, along with Ross, occupying the top 5 places. The early starters had some heavy rain, and although it was drier later, a strong wind blew throughout the day, making the scoring all the more impressive.
Round 2 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
Thursday 18 May
Round 1 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING
Sunday 14 May 2017
Round 1 of the CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING was played on a beautiful day with the strong breeze making scoring quite difficult. Unsurprisingly, champion Ewan leads the way, closely followed by fellow Hope Cup team member Matt.
Brandon Qualifier 30th April 2017
Lovely day for golf with plenty of sunshine and a strong breeze. Jimmy finding a bit of form again and Ewan clearly gearing up for his CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP defence. Ali’s wedding anniversary celebrations on Saturday night obviously did no harm to his golf!
23rd April 2017
On a pleasant but windy day the course proved difficult to play with only half the field returning completed cards. No such problems for Gordon, who is coming into form at the right time with a lot of important events scheduled for the next 2 months.
Congratulations to Jimmy on a great win. He was saying that he didn’t like playing in the rain any more..could’ve fooled me as it was a very wet day on the course! Well done to all who played.
